Jim McLaren, B.Sc, B.Ed
For the last fourteen years I've been teaching at Long & McQuade and Tom Lee Music, I also teach students in my own private home studio. I normally have a roster of about 40 students per week, teaching guitar, bass guitar and rock/jazz keyboards, I also teach and coach songwriting, home recording and music with technology. I have been teaching music privately or in studios for over 20 years and hold Bachelor's degrees in Science (Physics) and Education (Science/Music) education.
Currently, I have a house gig at the famous Roxy Cabaret, in Vancouver, Canada. I play keyboards, guitar and sing 4-5 nights/week performing music from the last 50 years until the modern day. I play keyboards, tour and write with the Vancouver band, INCURA (www.incura.net) - who were the CFOX SEEDS 2008 Platinum winners, opening up for the Stone Temple Pilots at Rogers Arena, and performing all throughout Canada.
I have many years of experience touring and performing live with all sorts of musical groups in many different genres. In addition to a Grade 8 level in Piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music, I also studied jazz under Dr. Kurt Ellenberger at the University of Lethbridge. From 2000-2005 I enjoyed a wonderful run with New West Theatre, in Lethbridge, Alberta. There, I played onstage with a number of other musicians, actors and dancers playing revue-styled shows.
I've played in garages as a teenager, in the theatre, in clubs and bars, outdoor festivals and the occasional hockey arena. I know what it takes to learn your craft and would be honoured to help you in that journey!
I have many music tutorial videos, plus a few jams and songs on my youtube channel, please click HERE to visit!
